As the weeks pass by, we’ve been making steady progress with DJ’s school work. Not much new to highlight in a post, but building slowly on what he already knows. As DJ has been working through the Addition Tables booklet I could tell that he was rather frustrated in his inability to write several of his numbers well. Where have we been? Not in the school room! We took a mid-session break and went to Orlando, FL for a week. Of course the excitement was so high there wasn’t much accomplished in terms of school work the week before or after our trip. But I have come to embrace the belief that “learning happens everywhere”. So here are some examples. Practical Life DJ learned to drive a car at Lego driving school and he received a drivers license….
I’m practicing patience this year and letting DJ set the pace. I suggest school time three days a week and then let DJ choose what and how much work he wants to do. Because we have added piano lessons, which require daily practice (albeit for only 5-10 minutes), I’m going easy on the rest of the academics to allow DJ to get used to piano practice. It helps that he really loves music and can already play Hot Cross Buns…
